Alexander Schmid joined our firm in 2010. Previously, he worked as an attorney with a renowned Zurich commercial law firm.
Areas of Expertise
Alexander Schmid mainly advises clients from the IT, the machinery and electrical industries and the video gaming industry. Having worked as a software developer in the past, he has wide practical experience in the areas of IT and software development. Furthermore, Alexander Schmid has in-depth knowledge in the financial market area.
Alexander Schmid drafts and reviews contracts, leads contract negotiations and represents clients in proceedings. His main areas of activity are contract law, corporate law and intellectual property law. Additionally, he advises clients in matters of regulation in the context of IT, including the relevant EU (e.g. Data Act, Cyber Resilience Act, AI Act), telecommunications and export control regulations.
Alexander Schmid has also been recognized by Who's Who Legal as a leading attorney in the Data and Telecommunications, Media & Technology categories. In the Who's Who Legal guide, he is described by clients as a "great IT negotiator with a hands-on approach" and "an excellent lawyer with both a computer science background and a commercially oriented approach" who possesses “a wealth of experience and skills." During his career, Alexander Schmid has, among others, carried out the following mandates:
- negotiation of various outsourcing projects (customer and supplier side)
- drafting and review of numerous cloud agreements (including SaaS, PaaS and IaaS agreements);
- creation of standard contracts for various IT suppliers
- drafting or review of numerous IT procurement contracts (customer and supplier side)
- drafting and/or negotiation of various joint venture and shareholders' agreements
- drafting and negotiation of various contracts in M&A projects in the IT and machinery industry sectors
- negotiation of common copyright tariffs for copyright users vis-à-vis collecting societies
- negotiation of interantional plant engineering contracts
- representation of clients in various court proceedings linked to contractual or intellectual property disputes
- general external counsel for various corporations from the IT and media sectors
